When you get to know Eitorf you will discover a 'green spot' in the South-East of the Rhine-Sieg District in the midst of a densely wooded delightful scenery. |
The
municipality of Eitorf is located in the South-East of the Rhine-Sieg District
consisting of 58 hamlets besides the village of Eitorf on an expanse of
70 squarekilometres in the midst of a densely wooded delightful scenery.
The village of Eitorf is in the Sieg valley, 83 metres above sea-level. |
On each side of the Sieg the places belonging
to Eitorf rise out of the valley up to the Hoher Schaden which is the highest
elevation with 388 metres above sea-level.
The name of Eitorf was first mentioned in a document 1144 by emperor Konrad II. The counts of the Auelgau which Eitorf belonged to had their seat in the castle of Siegburg (Michaelsberg in Siegburg). |

Agriculture was the main source of income
to the population up to the end of the last
century. Since the middle of the 16th century the village had market rights
for the products of the local farming. The fun fair of Eitorf (Kirmes)
which takes place in September of each year and is well-known in the Rhine-Sieg
District still recalls the awarding of the market rights.
By reclaiming the Siegerland with railroads and roads about 150 years ago, trade and industry took over. More than 750 businesses of different lines today make Eitorf an important centre.
A village in the green The municipality of Eitorf has much more to offer than trade and industry. About half of the area is wooded and characterizes the scenery. The Eitorfers and their guests from near and far are enthusiastic about hiking - on foot, on the cycle on (cycle) paths or perhaps on horseback. |
The excellent recreation facilities make
people's hearts beat faster: You can watch animals and plants in the quiet
of the woods, scout the surrounding
area and its sights, learn to golf on the largest German training ground,
swim, play tennis, squash, have a sauna, to mention but a few...
Eitorf has its own theatre and a citizens'
house - both with a large variety of programmes. A hospital, children's
and old people's homes add to the social and medical care.
